Your optics matter. So does the information behind them.

North American Coating Laboratories has achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 following an independent third-party assessment. For customers working on defense optical programs, this milestone provides verified evidence that NACL has met the applicable cybersecurity requirements within its assessed environment.

We’re proud of the achievement. We’re even more interested in what it means for the customers who trust us with their projects.

What CMMC Level 2 means

CMMC is a cybersecurity assessment program used in the defense supply chain. Level 2 addresses safeguards for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), using the 110 security requirements in NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2. A Level 2 certification assessment evaluates the implementation of those requirements within a defined assessment scope.

CUI is unclassified information that requires safeguarding or dissemination controls. In an optical program, certain technical drawings, specifications, or other project records may be designated CUI. The designation and handling requirements depend on the information and the program.

NACL’s certification applies to the environment covered by its assessment. Our team can help customers confirm how that scope aligns with the work they are considering.

Why it matters when choosing an optical coating supplier

Supplier qualification extends beyond spectral performance and durability. For programs involving CUI, customers also need to understand how a supplier will protect the information required to perform the work.

NACL’s Level 2 certification gives customers independent assessment evidence to use in that evaluation. It supports conversations about cybersecurity requirements earlier in the quoting and qualification process, when program teams are deciding who will receive technical information and how it will be shared.

Optical expertise backed by information safeguards

NACL supports demanding optical applications, including thermal imaging, night vision, aerospace systems, and ruggedized cameras and sensors. We work with polymer, glass, and infrared substrates and provide antireflective, DLC, conductive, mirror, and filter coatings.

That work depends on understanding the customer’s requirements. CMMC Level 2 certification provides added assurance around the handling of CUI within our assessed environment, supporting the technical collaboration needed to move a coating project forward.

The people behind the milestone

Cybersecurity takes consistent work across an organization. This achievement reflects the effort of the NACL team and the attention they bring to the processes supporting our customers.

We’ll celebrate this milestone, then continue the work that sustains it. Maintaining the required safeguards is an ongoing responsibility.
